One of the main advantages with having Vinyl or rubber floors is it reduces noise and provides soft underfoot, making it comfortable to walk on, and thus are referred to as "resilient" flooring. Resilient flooring could consist of solid vinyl, vinyl composition, backed or cushioned vinyl and linoleum.
Almost all vinyl floors are slip-resistant surfaces and can be cleaned easily. Sweeping daily and an occasional damp mopping is often all that is used in cleaning and keeping your vinyls spotless clean, looking brand new and sparkling bright. Even spills are no problem as they can be wiped away with a damp cloth. This maintenance friendly floor has a non-wax surface making it moisture and stain resistant.
The amount of colours, styles and patterns are numerous. High gloss or low gloss vinyls are available. A wide range including wood finishes, marble, natural, plain coloured, tile or stone look alike are setting the trend in cushioned vinyl floors . The countless design and colour options make it easy to customise or design to match your requirements. Tile is available in shapes that can be custom cut and laid out in patterns using different colours or finishes. Vinyls can be installed to create custom made designs or logo's, to influence traffic in a hall, pathway, hospital or retail stores. Virtually any look can be obtained to suit any decor.
Vinyl flooring can be used in almost any area, from residential to commercial and even in even for industrial flooring. It can be installed over any standard underlayment, concrete, old ceramic tile, wood or non-cushioned vinyl flooring. Vinyl flooring is frequently used in healthcare facilities or hospital flooring because it is almost impervious to water, giving it a significant sanitary advantage over carpeting. These characteristics are particularly important in hospital rooms, extended care facilities, nursing homes and day care centres. Carpet & Decor offers welded and sealed seams that prevent contaminants from going into the seam area. And with fewer seams than most other hard surface floors, bacteria has fewer places to hide and grow. Disinfectant cleaners can provide a sterile surface without causing any damage to the floors. Vinyl products can provide an attractive alternative to expensive flooring systems in gymnasiums, exercise rooms, recreational areas and for use of indoor sport. The no-wax stain-resistant surfaces of these floors mean lower maintenance costs and greater usage than traditional floors, making it perfect for sport flooring. High-density vinyl foam cushion backing systems provide a shock absorbing surface that reduces impact shock and leg fatigue.
Vinyl flooring is not recommended for outdoor installation, where excessive heat, cold or sunlight may cause fading and discoloration or places where sharp objectives will fall onto the floor or be used on the floor as it can damage it.
Carpet & Decor imports and stock all leading vinyl brands in the South-African market. These brands include Transit tiles, Floorworx Vinyl, Tarkett, Tuff Floors, Polyflor, Kalahari tiles and Gerflor.

FAQs
Vinyl sheeting is a flexible, durable material made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) that is commonly used as a floor covering or wall paneling. It is available in large rolls or sheets, and it’s often used in commercial and residential settings for its resilience and ease of maintenance.
Vinyl sheeting offers several benefits, including:
- Durability and resistance to wear and tear
- Waterproof and moisture-resistant properties
- Easy to clean and maintain
- Variety of designs and textures available
- Comfortable underfoot and noise-reducing
- Cost-effective compared to other flooring materials
Yes, vinyl sheeting is suitable for both residential and commercial spaces. It is commonly used in high-traffic areas, healthcare facilities, schools, and homes due to its durability and ease of cleaning.
Yes, vinyl sheeting is relatively easy to install, especially when it’s professionally laid down. The sheets can be cut to fit a specific area, and adhesives or specialized methods are used for securing it to the subfloor. Some types of vinyl sheeting may also come in peel-and-stick formats, making DIY installation easier.
Vinyl sheeting is very easy to clean. Regular sweeping or vacuuming, followed by wiping with a damp mop and a mild detergent solution, is typically sufficient. For tough stains, a vinyl floor cleaner or a mixture of water and vinegar can be used.
Vinyl sheeting is highly resistant to stains and scratches, but not entirely impervious. Spills should be cleaned up promptly to prevent potential staining, and sharp objects can still leave marks. However, its protective wear layer helps prevent most everyday damage.
The lifespan of vinyl sheeting depends on the quality of the product and the level of care it receives. Generally, high-quality vinyl sheeting can last between 10 to 20 years or longer if properly maintained.
Vinyl sheeting can have an environmental impact during its production and disposal due to PVC material, but many manufacturers are working on more sustainable options. Some vinyl sheeting is made with recycled materials, and there are now recycling programs in place to reduce waste.
Yes, vinyl sheeting is highly recommended for bathrooms and kitchens due to its waterproof properties. It can withstand high humidity levels and frequent exposure to water, making it a great choice for these spaces.
When compared to other flooring materials like hardwood, tile, or carpet, vinyl sheeting is generally more affordable, easier to install, and less maintenance-intensive. It is also more comfortable underfoot and offers a wide range of design options. However, it may not have the same long-term value or aesthetic appeal as high-end materials like hardwood or stone.
